Rafael Pires

Rafael Pires (1772—1849) was a Portuguese admiral and explorer of East Africa who led the Portuguese Armada against the Sultanate of Oman during the Omani-Portuguese War. He is credited for playing a major role in the establishment of Portuguese colonies in that region and as posthumously awarded the title Count of Lindi by Queen Maria II of Portugal.
