Saad bin Laden

Saad bin Laden (1979-July 2009) was a son of Osama bin Laden and an al-Qaeda commander.

Biography[]

Saad bin Laden was born in 1979, one of Osama bin Laden's 26 children. He married a woman from Yemen and fled to Iran after the 9/11 attacks, being held under "house arrest" by the Iranian government with other al-Qaeda leaders. On 11 April 2002, he was one of the planners behind the Ghriba synagogue bombing, killing 19 people; in 2003, he was implicated in the planning of the Riyadh compound bombings and the 2003 Casablanca bombings of 12 and 16 May 2003 with Iranian complicity. By January 2009, he was no longer in Iranian custody, and he went into hiding in Pakistan after escaping from Iran. In July 2009, he was killed in a United States drone strike.
