Sardes was a satrapy of the Seleucid Empire, with cities at Pessinus and Ephesus. It had the Mausoleum of Mausolus, a natural wonder, and was a popular province of the Seleucids. Eventually, it was conquered by Pontus, who took over Asia Minor.
