The Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) was a liberal-conservative political party in Slovenia that was founded in 1989. The party developed from 1980s anti-communist trade movements in the country, and the party was originally a moderate social democratic party. During the 1990s, its views shifted to the right as dissidents from other parties influenced SDS politics, and it became known for its radical populism, nationalism, and xenophobia. The party also had ties to the Catholic Church, but it supported gambling, stem cell research, and civil unions.
