The Socialist Faction was a socialist political party in Greece that was active from 1860 to 1936. The faction was founded by working-class intellectuals and laborers who were opposed to King Otto I of Greece's rule and the power of the bourgeoisie in politics (particularly within the English Party). The party, unlike many other world socialist parties at the time, advocated staunchly Marxist views, notably advocating a planned economy instead of state capitalism. In addition, the party opposed foreign trade, supported secularism, advocated full citizenship rights for all residents of Greece, and oopposed high military spending.
